Wetdown - Many volunteer departments of the fire service in the United states celebrate the arrival of a new piece of apparatus with a wetdown. Mostly an excuse to party, a wetdown is a large celebration in which the neighboring Fire Departments share in the joy of a new engine or truck by coming with their engines and wetting down the new truck, something easily interpreted as a metaphor for baptism.

In 1894 the decoration was introduced for officers of Volunteer Forces in India and the Colonies (although in the case of India the length of qualifying service was reduced to eighteen years).

2nd New Hampshire Volunteer Regiment - 2nd New Hampshire Volunteer Regiment was the longest-serving volunteer regiment of the State of New Hampshire in the American Civil War. The 2nd New Hampshire was organized in early 1861 and mustered in June 4, 1861.
