Offshore radio - Offshore radio refers to the practice of radio broadcasting from ships or fixed maritime structures, usually in international waters. The majority of offshore broadcasters have been pirate radio stations, using seaborne broadcasting as a means to circumvent national broadcasting regulations, but the practice has also been used by legitimate broadcasting organisations like the Voice of America.

BBC Radio 1 - BBC Radio 1 is a British radio station, specialising in popular music aimed at the 16-24 age bracket. Radio 1 was launched at 7am on September 30, 1967 as a direct response to the popularity of offshore pirate radio stations such as Radio Caroline.

Radio Caroline - Radio Caroline is a European radio station that originally commenced transmissions as an offshore radio station broadcasting from a ship anchored off the coast of South East England in international waters. Unlicensed by any government for the majority of its life, it was labelled as a pirate radio station.

Radio Scotland - Radio Scotland was an offshore pirate radio station broadcasting on 242 metres in the Medium Wave (AM), created by Tommy Shields in 1965. The station was located on board the former lightship Comet which was anchored at various locations off the Scottish coastline within international waters.
