Anglo-Saxons - The Anglo-Saxons were culturally-related Germanic tribes from Angeln, a peninsula in what is now Lower Saxony in northwestern Germany. Beginning in the mid-5th century CE, these tribes migrated to southern Britain and became dominant there.

Anglo-Saxon Attitudes - For over a hundred years Anglo-Saxon attitudes have been a reproachful cry of those who perceived themselves downtrodden (and in some cases were) by a confident triumphalist culture emanating from Britain. Like most resilient cultures, the "Anglo-Saxons" turned all criticisms to humour.

Anglo-Saxon Chronicle - The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is a collection of annals narrating the history of the Anglo-Saxons and their settlement in Britain. Much of the information in these documents consists of rumours of events that happened elsewhere and so may be unreliable.

South Saxons - South Saxons were the followers of King Ælle (see Aelle of Sussex) a warlord from Old Saxony in north-western Germany who were among the Anglo-Saxon Dark Age invaders of Britannia at the end of the 5th Century. The name "South Saxons" is probably not a self-appellation but rather a geographical distinction made later by scholars in Canterbury in Kent for the southernmost Saxon polity of Dark Age Britain.
